Songwriters Circle (One Wednesday of each month)
The Normal Songwriters Circle with the sharing of songs/lyrics, an exercise to take away with you and work on if you so wish, and a favourite song (and why!) at the end of the evening from a different member each time.
Each exercise in each meeting will be from a different member too, giving variety.
Examples recently-
In April 2009 we had the exercise from Karl looking at Templates for judging the merit of a song. So, next time we write a song, we can judge it against the 3 Templates looking at Emotional Response/ Memory Analysis/ and Strength of Mood.
In November 2009 we had the exercise from myself looking at all significant Dates with a Loved One, this involved getting answers to questions like - what road did you have your date on? How did you feel at the end of the date? etc. We then Democratically took everyones answers and voted on The Best and Second Best! these then could be used as two story arcs to create a song from, which many of us brought drafts of at the next meeting.
Workshop (Occasional date in a month) where we will try to create a song in the time we are together.
A good bunch of people works wonders for bouncing ideas off and in the time we will start in a large group working on a song, and depending on ideas and whether different versions of that same song can work, we may then branch off into smaller groups (focusing on small collaborations , hopefully ending with a few versions (acoustic folk one, dance mix, etc.)) along with everyones contribution to the Main Song from the initial exercise.
So, If you intend to come, please bring along any instruments you have, laptops with Music Software, microphones, Amplifiers. Whatever you can cart along!
Each time u come and pay the fee of £2 ENTRANCE to either of these meetings, that fee will be used to enter us all as a Collective Songwriting Team into proper agreements for the songs we create!
We then will enter into competitions/industry, to try and get some recognition, which should obviously have a knock on effect to each and everyone of us individually with our own work!
The song we have been working on in the Workshop, “Lavender” we have entered into The UK Songwriting Contest in the Adult Contemporary Category. Hear the result on the Message Board!
